Government Affairs Office
About the Government Affairs Division
Housed under the Office of the Executive Director, the Government Affairs Division serves as the agency’s primary representative to the Office of the Governor, the Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security, the Virginia General Assembly, and the U.S. Congress.
The division manages the monitoring, review, and advocacy of agency-supported legislation while providing policy assistance to the broader fire and EMS community.
Core Responsibilities:

Board Liaison: Serves as the primary link to the Virginia Fire Services Board; manages board logistics, serves as Clerk, and develops board policies and procedures.

Local Support: Partners with the Office of Emergency Medical Services and the Department of Forestry to conduct fire and EMS system reviews for Virginia localities at no cost.

Strategic Leadership: Leads the development of the agency’s Strategic Plan and provides policy and political counsel to senior leadership.

Compliance: Oversees agency adherence to the Virginia Public Records Act and Conflict of Interest filings.
